The OT-2 (Open Tune) by Innovate Motorsports is an all-in-one, ultraportable solution that turns your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or PC into a powerful wireless OBD-II enabled automotive diagnostic tool. Your Wireless Devices Are Now OBD-II Tools
Finally, an automotive scan device that truly allows you to take advantage of popular consumer wireless technology. The OT-2 is an OBD-II Wi-Fi/USB Interface for Smartphones and handheld devices with access to the LogWorks Mobile app, as well as PCs. Connecting to your vehicle's onboard computer network via its OBD-II (On Board Diagnostic) port, located under the dashboard and standard on virtually every car and light truck manufactured in the US since 1996, the OT-2's built-in 16-pin OBD-II connector is capable of reading up to 16 channels of diagnostic information generated by your vehicle�s onboard computer network and integrate it into an Innovate Modular Tuning System (MTS) "Log Chain." The OT-2 then makes this information available to you via your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or PC as a hotspot (also via USB connection in the case of the PC). The free LogWorks software channels this information into several different diagnostic datapoints. Beginning in the 1980s new cars and trucks began to be wired with a variety of computerized diagnostic systems designed to improve efficiencies, simplify troubleshooting and minimize the need for repairs. These systems produce indicators known as diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) internally, usually indicating something out of the ordinary by illuminating the "check engine"/malfunction indicator light (MIL) on the dashboard of your car. In the 1990s these systems, codes and the hardware connectors used to access them were standardized in North America as OBD (Onboard Diagnostics) and later OBD-II. Automotive technicians have long utilized specialized high-end machinery to read these codes, passing the costs on to consumers, but now you can get access to the same diagnostic codes and additional information quickly and inexpensively right on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and PC with Innovate Motorsports' OT-2. Very Poor Results with Innovate OT-2: Seems like a great product in the manufacturers description but it's a different story in practice.
I first tried to use this to data log some air fuel ratios, rpm and boost values on my 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T AWD. The first thing I noticed was how extraordinarily long it took to even connect to the ECU - 15 mins with turning the car on and off and switching between manual ISO mode and automatic. Seems like blind luck when it decides to finally synch up. Then I noticed that it is very slow to update values and continues to drop the ECU connection sporadically. I was able to log rpm but not AFR or boost values.
Then tried it on my 2006 Volvo XC90 V8 AWD, this time it synched up much quicker and updates very fast but continues to drop the ECU connection every few seconds.
If you read on the Innovate website forum you'll see many similar accounts where it wont connect, drops the connection and even causes ECU errors on some models. Added drawback is the support forum is absolutely dead, you see plenty of complaints and confusion but not a single response from Innovate.
Also the dyno function and 1/4 mile are useless when it drops the connection. Even scanning for DTC is hit and miss due to the limited connectivity.
It might work better on fords or evos but I have yet to find a car that it works as advertised. Sadly this will be the last Innovate product I ever purchase.
